It’s all about fun!

Delight your children–and your inner child, too!–by taking part in one of Bellingham’s best just-for-fun events, the Procession of the Species.

Every spring dozens of people get dressed up as plants and animals and parade through downtown Bellingham in a celebration of community and our connection to nature. You’ll see lots of different birds, bugs, fish, and all kinds of animals as well as mushrooms and flowers and trees. A jellyfish is a popular costume, and a practical one in case it turns out to be showery: it’s an umbrella with “tentacles” hanging down from the edges. This year’s parade had everything from a giraffe to a razor clam, including a gigantic black raven whose wings were fastened to bicycle pedals and flapped up and down as the bike moved. At the end of the parade there’s a great all-ages community party for the participants and the thousand-plus spectators.

The parade has just three simple rules: no words, written or spoken; no motorized vehicles; and no live animals or pets. That leaves the field wide open for the imagination!

If you want inspiration or help making your mask or costume, you can come to a free workshop in the weeks leading up to the parade. Volunteer artists will help you turn recycled materials into your fantasy plant or animal.

Next year’s Procession of the Species date: Saturday, May 5th. See you there, rain or shine!

I have most of them on file but if I don’t I’ll photograph the “Good, Bad and the Ugly” so that you can get a real idea of what the home is like. Not just some glamor shots.

I don’t think that Fountain Hills has the “Shadow Inventory” that so much of the Phoenix Metro area supposedly has. There’s no way to know for sure but the Bank Owned Foreclosed Homes has been holding steady between 43 and 49 available on the market at any given time and now we’ve dipped below the 35 for 3 weeks. With Interest rates still low and home prices very low you might consider investing in Real Estate. Gas, Gold, Stocks and Commodities are all at record highs and are continuing to move up. While Real Estate is at record lows and they aren’t making any more of it.

So are you going to Buy High and Sell Low or Buy Low and Sell HIGH?

Fountain Hills, AZ Inventory is now at 4.2 months! 6 Months inventory is considered normal. 4.2 months is considered a SELLERS MARKET!

If you’ve been waiting on the sidelines you might have waited too long.

There are many homes that are not Bank Owned or Foreclosed available that are priced to be competitive with the market. Even though some of these are Short Sales, which remain troublesome, many are people selling because they have to relocate or for other reasons. The only way these homes will sell is to price them at fair market value. So don’t overlook an opportunity to buy just because it’s not a Bank Owned Foreclosed Home.

Mercer Island Condos now available under $500,000

Ranging from a low of $165,000 to up around $500,000, these 16 condos are the total list up to this price available on Mercer Island right now.  There is, as always, a broad range of homeowner’s dues so just check with me if you need that information.  These condos range from one to three bedrooms and include a couple of short sales, and bank owned properties as well.

Click HERE to see these listings.

As a quiet, convenient, and sought after area, Mercer Island is known mostly for it’s quiet and community centered lifestyle as well as the luxury waterfront properties that are so tempting as a lifestyle choice for those in the luxury market, especially boat and water lovers.  But very reasonable homes and great deals can be found, as this list of the available condos shows.  One great reason to choose Mercer Island real estate?  The schools are tops.

Etta’s at Pike Place Market

Etta's Restaurant at Pike Place MarketAlmost every time a client flies in from out of town to look at homes, the first question they ask me is “Who is Tom Douglas?”  This is only right as he must be one of the more famous restauranteurs, celebrity chefs, and inventive contributors to this emerald city that we are lucky to have here (and he lives in Ballard by the way!).  Some of his more famous spots are Dahlia Lounge (and Bakery!), Lola’s, Serious Pie Downtown, Cuooo, Seahorse, Brave Horse Tavern, Ting Momo, Palace Kitchen.  And while I welcome the inspriation to go eat at every one of these in the near future so that I can make a Tom Douglas blog series, realistically it might take all summer, so until then please check out the Tom Douglas blog for news and views on these different venues as well as some suppliers (how the planting went) and so on.  (There is even a video about how to cut lamb properly.)

Well, I’m just kidding about our clients asking me about Tom Douglas, but I know they would if they had the time between all our home finding, negotiation, etc. discussions!  That’s why we blog on this site, so we can have those conversations Entering Ettas is like walking into a Seattle momentthat would otherwise get swept aside by the pressing business of finding  the perfect home.

Back to our main topic today, Etta’s.  This has got to be one of many Satellites’ most favored and beloved spots, where people return again and again knowing they will have the experience they crave of a premiere spot with character and flair, in the heart of the Seattle Mystique of Pike Place Market, the seafood we love here, all that the words Northwest Cuisine evokes.  And think about it, where better for a restaurant that depends on freshest seafood and local produce than right across the street from the center of all that at the Market?  Rain or shine fresh seasonal seafood and produce at the fingertips of a fine Seattle chef.  You WILL find crab cakes here.  Bouillabaisse, Copper River salmon, Alaskan halibut, clams, mussels, oysters, shrimp, dungeness crab, hand cut spaghetti, wonderful fish and chips, natural beef burgers and loin strips, Quinalt River sturgeon, and the freshest produce, now a lot of asparagus as it’s in season. Desert?  Maple cream puffs, winter fruit crisp, citrus cheesecake, triple coconut cream pie, to name a few, and a selection of port and sherry.

They don’t have Happy Hour, but they do have Crabby Hour from 4 to 6 weekdays in the bar.  At Crabby Hour you willPlate Glass windows at Ettas look out on all the action at Pike Place Market enjoy specials on cocktails, wine and beer ($4 for local draft ales), steamed crab by the leg or half or whole, crab salad, crab sandwiches, or oysters.  And for as traditional Seattle as you can get, Etta’s for Brunch Saturdays and Sundays, served from 9 to 3.  Reservations are recommended and you can call them at 206) 443-6000.

With Summer Just Around The Corner, Snohomish County Farmers Markets Open For The 2011 Season

Each Spring I begin to look forward to the opening of our local farmer’s markets. I love to have my own small organic vegetable garden, but I really LOVE heading to a market to buy such an incredible array of fresh veggies, fruits, honey, flowers, breads, cheese and so much more. We are so blessed in the Pacific Northwest. We have a moderate climate and a long season for crops. Snohomish county has an abundance of farms and I want to do my part to support our local farmers. Eating local not only makes for a healthier diet, but think of the gas and pollution saved when trucks are not having to bring our crops in from across the country.
